If any of you have ever heard of IIAR Bulletin 110 it was first written in 1993, and has had no major changes or updates since. Bulletin 110 was IIAR’s approach to what they believed should be involved with Mechanical Integrity. In that RAGAGEP document, it suggested things such as;
- every 24-72 hours operational inspections
- test all safety cutouts bi-annually
- independent inspections by competent individuals every 5 years
- inspection of supports
- NDT (Non-Destructive Testing)
- etc…
- bi-annually inspect stems and glands of uncapped valves
- every 5 years test stop valves for function and replace as necessary
- and much more….
If you are not aware Bulletin 110 has been in the top 3 cited RAGAGEP documents from OHSA the last 5 years and it will soon be going away. It will be replaced with what IIAR will be calling ANSI/IIAR Standard 6: Standard for Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Safe Closed-Circuit Ammonia Refrigeration Systems
Mechanical Integrity Programs should incorporate manufactures requirements, past history, engineering safeguards from the PHA, and RAGAGEP. RAGAGEP will soon be expanding much more than the document we all have became familiar with the last 20+ years.
