This last month, OSHA from region 7 gave their update and a presentation to help us understand the PSM inspection and expectations. To download the presentation click this link: OSHA PSM Inspections gcaand Expectations
GCAP believes these are the three key areas to get right to help establish tone/good faith to pass any inspection/audit ?
- Remember, in any inspection it is key to know your material (program). Get your documents organized and always analyze for accuracy. Documents should be used to answer most all questions asked to or about your program. Look to all past recommendations from employees, hazard assessments, audits, inspections, and investigations and continuously seek resolution.
- Preparing your staff including yourself for an inspection is also a key point. Remember, under the NEP your staff will be asked questions about what they do. How will they answer? Is it based upon the program or their own intuition. Will employees answer differently on the same question?
- Lastly prepare the facility. Housekeeping is the most important and your program will be judged based upon how it looks. Is there excessive ice? Is there corrosion? Is there an ammonia odor? Does it look safe?
